About Erik

Erik has been practicing for over 18 years, specializing in functional movement of the body. He began to hone his skills and developed the effective techniques he now uses. He has a long list of continuing education on topics like sports massage, muscle testing, and active isolated stretching (AIS). Erik offers the following types of massages: medical massage, orthopedic massage, sports massage, functional movement massage, and therapeutic massage.

Erik's training, including initiating a pre-med track at UCF, and professional experience working closely with local physicians and chiropractors makes him uniquely qualified to understand health and function. Additionally, Erik completed his degree as a nursing major, and along the way, discovered his passion for functional movement therapeutic services. With his nursing education, Erik will sit with clients to understand their restrictions, pain areas, lifestyle, and create an individualized therapeutic plan to meet their specific needs and help them achieve their specific goals.

Erik is strongly committed to being fair about the number of sessions it will take for function and pain relief. Through his eclectic and effective techniques, Erik aims to not only alleviate physical discomfort but also promote mental clarity and emotional balance as he understands the impact that daily stressors can have on the body. He also educates clients on understanding how their day to day life influences the "aches and pains."

Erik's motto, "when you treat a person, not an illness, it is a guaranteed win." reflects his commitment to his clients. If you are interested in learning more about Erik's services, give him a call today.

The Connection Between Massage Therapy, Functional Movement and Mental Health

In our fast-paced world, prioritizing both physical and mental well-being is essential. Massage therapy, particularly when integrated with functional movement, offers a holistic approach to health that addresses not just the body, but also the mind. This synergy can significantly enhance emotional and psychological health, making it a valuable addition to your self-care routine.

Understanding Functional Movement

Functional movement encompasses exercises and activities designed to improve daily life performance, focusing on strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. By engaging in functional movement, individuals can enhance their physical capabilities, which in turn influences overall well-being.

The Role of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy complements functional movement in several ways:

  • Alleviating Muscle Tension: Massage reduces muscle tightness, allowing for greater freedom of movement and enabling the body to perform daily tasks with ease.

  • Enhancing Recovery: Post-exercise, massage aids in muscle recovery, decreasing soreness and helping individuals stay active and engaged.

  • Promoting Relaxation: By calming the nervous system, massage therapy provides a mental reset, allowing individuals to approach challenges with a clearer mind.

Mental Health Benefits

  1. Stress Relief: Massage therapy effectively reduces stress levels by lowering cortisol and boosting serotonin and dopamine. This hormonal balance leads to a calmer mental state and improved emotional resilience.

  2. Mood Improvement: The relaxation induced by massage can enhance mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, contributing to an overall sense of well-being.

  3. Greater Body Awareness: Engaging in functional movement while receiving massage therapy helps individuals develop a deeper connection with their bodies. This awareness fosters self-acceptance and can lead to improved self-esteem.

  4. Mindfulness Practice: The combined practices of massage and functional movement encourage mindfulness, helping individuals focus on the present moment and reduce negative thought patterns.

Emotional and Psychological Transformations

The integration of massage therapy and functional movement can lead to remarkable changes in emotional and psychological health:

  • Increased Confidence: As individuals improve their physical abilities, they often experience a boost in confidence and self-efficacy, making them more willing to take on new challenges.

  • Improved Sleep Patterns: Regular massage promotes relaxation and better sleep, essential for mental clarity and emotional regulation.

Incorporating massage therapy focused on functional movement into your wellness routine can lead to significant benefits for both your body and mind. By enhancing physical capabilities, reducing stress, and promoting emotional well-being, massage therapy becomes a powerful tool in supporting overall mental health. Whether you are seeking relief from physical discomfort or looking to boost your emotional resilience, exploring the interconnectedness of these therapies can be a transformative experience.
